A method for the determination of formaldehyde by flow injection analysis with spectrophotometric detection is proposed, based on retarding the reaction between brilliant green and sulphite by the addition of formaldehyde; this was investigated for formaldehyde quantification in extracts from wood-based panels. For the first time, a heating step was explored, providing a sample throughput of 50 analyses per hour, with a limit of detection of 0.02 mg L?1 and linearity of 0.20–3.0 mg L?1, which was adequate for the expected range of formaldehyde concentration in the extracts. The mean recovery observed for actual samples was in the range of 92–106 %, with a maximum relative standard deviation of 6.0 %. The paired t-test revealed no significant difference between this method and the official Nash method, demonstrating an appropriate accuracy and precision; the method is proposed as a simple, fast and inexpensive alternative for the routine determination of formaldehyde in an aqueous medium. 相似文献

The adsorption of Cd onto two titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nTiO2) with distinct crystalline phases and sizes was investigated in conditions that can be found in freshwater systems (I=0.01 M, pH 6.0–8.5). Cd dynamic speciation was assessed by two distinct electroanalytical techniques: absence of gradients and nernstian equilibrium stripping (AGNES) and scanned stripping chronopotentiometry (SSCP). With both NPs, 1 : 1 CdTiO2 homogeneous and labile surface complexes are formed. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a fatty liver disorder that could be improved with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) supplementation in diet. We propose the monitoring, in whole mouse liver extracts and in isolated mitochondria, of the absorption of compounds from three different diets: standard (CT), high‐fat (HFD) and high‐fat supplemented with EVOO (HFSO). Male mice were submitted to one of the following three diets: CT or HFD for 16 weeks or HFD for 8 weeks followed by additional 8 weeks with HFSO. Following this period, liver was extracted for histological evaluation, mitochondria isolation and mass spectrometry analyses. Diets, liver extracts and Percoll‐purified mitochondria were analyzed using ESI‐MS and the lipidomics approach. Morphological, histological and spectrometric results indicated a decrease in NASH severity with EVOO supplementation in comparison with animals maintained with HFD. Spectrometric data also demonstrated that some compounds presented on the diets are absorbed by the mitochondria. EVOO was shown to be a potential therapeutic alternative in food for NASH. Our results are in accordance with the proposition that the major factor that influences different responses to diets is their composition – and not only calories – especially when it comes to studies on obesity. Phenolic compounds are thought to be important to prevent neurodegenerative diseases (ND). Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder known for its typical motor features, the deposition of α-synuclein (αsyn)-positive inclusions in the brain, and for concomitant cellular pathologies that include oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. Neuroprotective activity of fisetin, a dietary flavonoid, was evaluated against main hallmarks of PD in relevant cellular models. At physiologically relevant concentrations, fisetin protected SH-SY5Y cells against oxidative stress overtaken by tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP) and against methyl-4-phenylpyridinuim (MPP+)-induced toxicity in dopaminergic neurons, the differentiated Lund human Mesencephalic (LUHMES) cells. In this cellular model, fisetin promotes the increase of the levels of dopamine transporter. Remarkably, fisetin reduced the percentage of cells containing αsyn inclusions as well as their size and subcellular localization in a yeast model of αsyn aggregation. Overall, our data show that fisetin exerts modulatory activities toward common cellular pathologies present in PD; remarkably, it modulates αsyn aggregation, supporting the idea that diets rich in this compound may prove beneficial. 相似文献

The equations describing the steady flow of Cosserat–Bingham fluids are considered, and existence of weak solution is proved for the three‐dimensional boundary‐value problem with the use of the Lipschitz truncation argument. In contrast to the classical Bingham fluid, the micropolar Bingham fluid supports local micro‐rotations and two types of plug zones. Our approach is based on an approximation of the constitutive relation by a generalized Newtonian constitutive relation and a subsequent limiting process. Electrochemical sensors to quantify concentrations of emerging pollutants have attracted great attention from the industry and scientific community. Nanomaterials such as carbon black have been applied in sensors to identify substances that are toxic to the environment and human health due to their excellent electroanalytical properties. The aim of the study was to develop a novel electrochemical sensor for the endocrine disruptor hormone determination. To our knowledge, for the first time the synthesis of material based on carbon black containing immobilized palladium nanoparticles, with the application for the hormone ethinylestradiol, is reported in the literature. The material was synthesized, characterized, and applied to the determination in tap water and human urine of the synthetic hormone 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), which is currently considered an emerging pollutant. The morphology, structure and electrochemical performance of the sensors were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in sodium phosphate buffer solution at pH 5.0 allowed the generation of a method to quantify the concentration of 17α-ethinylestradiol in a linear range of 0.5–119.0 μmol L−1, obtaining 81.0 nmol L−1 of calculated limit of detection (LOD). The system was efficient in detecting 17α-ethinylestradiol in real urine samples and showed no interferences for ascorbic acid, uric acid, progesterone, and dopamine. It is noteworthy that the results obtained showed good recovery values, considering that the urine samples were not previously treated or pre-concentrated, which suggests the development of an electrochemical sensor that works in situ and in real time to monitor relevant substances in the control clinical and environmental, with the possibility of point-of-care analyses. 相似文献

This paper presents a systematic analysis of the infrared absorption spectra and Raman scattering of the triacylglycerol molecule predominant in raw bovine milk. Gas chromatography measurements were also performed and revealed the palmitic, stearic, and oleic acids as the most predominant fatty acids in the composition of milk. Based on the gas chromatography results, infrared, and Raman spectra of the triacylglycerol with this combination of fatty acids were simulated. The theoretical spectra were compared with the experimental ones of milk fat and fluid raw milk. Assignment of bands of milk fat was proposed, which can be used for a quality monitoring of the product. We also performed a multivariate model of partial least squares from samples of fluid milk with different concentrations of fat. As a result, the most important variables in the projection were selected as vibrational markers for quality monitoring and quantifying of this important constituent of milk. The stable-set problem is an NP-hard problem that arises in numerous areas such as social networking, electrical engineering, environmental forest planning, bioinformatics clustering and prediction, and computational chemistry. While some relaxations provide high-quality bounds, they result in very large and expensive conic optimization problems. We describe and test an integrated interior-point cutting-plane method that efficiently handles the large number of nonnegativity constraints in the popular doubly-nonnegative relaxation. This algorithm identifies relevant inequalities dynamically and selectively adds new constraints in a build-up fashion. We present computational results showing the significant benefits of this approach in comparison to a standard interior-point cutting-plane method. 相似文献
